Rotary Club quilt records 150 years of Southampton history

Southampton, Ont., Mar. 31, 2008 -- The Southampton Rotary Club's 150th Anniversary Quilt will go to the lucky winner of a raffle during the 150th Anniversary's "weekend", Aug. 14-17, 2008. The draw for the quilt will take place at Fairy Lake on Aug. 17, during the Closing Ceremony.

The beautiful queen-size quilt is the work of Rotary members Andrea and Michael La Blance. It features the logo of the 150th Anniversary, plus photographs from Southampton history, each bordered in red and on a blue background. Photos were supplied by the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.

Raffle tickets are available at the Museum (where the quilt is on display in the foyer), or from Hills Insurance, the Chamber of Commerce office or Andrea La Blance, rlorna@bmts.com, 519-797-3822. Tickets are $2 each, 3 for $5, or 10 for $10. Proceeds of the raffle will benefit local Rotary projects.

The Museum is holding a fibre art exhibit called Coming Home to the Bruce, May 8-Oct. 6, 2008. It features hooked rugs and heritage mats depicting historic scenes in Bruce County. The Southampton 150th Anniversary Committee is composed of volunteers and is a sub-committee of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce. As a steering committee, it works closely with local groups and organizations, which also run their own 150th anniversary events along with their regular programming.
