ACC gains Executive Director, $375,000 grant
BY ROBIN HILBORN,
Family Helper editor
(Mar. 17, 2003) The Adoption Council of Canada (ACC) has a new Executive Director. Eugénie Doré started work March 17, 2003. Ms. Doré brings her experience with fundraising, developing sponsorships and raising awareness about children's issues. Before joining ACC she was director of Corporate Affairs at the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, director of the National Capital Region for the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, and vice-president of the board of the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Trust.

The previous executive director, Judy Grove, is now program director for the Canada's Waiting Children program, www.canadaswaitingkids.ca. It lists photos and profiles of children in care of Canadian child welfare agencies and waiting for permanent adoptive families. For more: ACC, #210, 211 Bronson Ave., Ottawa K1R 6H5, 1-888-542-3678, www.adoption.ca.

ACC gets $375,000 grant -- (Nov. 27, 2002) The Adoption Council of Canada (ACC) has received a three-year grant from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption of Dublin, Ohio. The grant is for $375,000 ($235,000 US). ACC will use the funds to further its work in finding permanent homes for waiting children and to inform and educate professionals, birth and adoptive families, and adoptees pre- and post-adoption.

Based in Ottawa, ACC's mission is to inform and educate Canadians on all aspects of adoption; promote openness and honesty in adoption and work towards legislative reform. It's the only national recruitment organization helping provinces and territories to place special needs children for adoption.

The Canada's Waiting Children Program, at canadaswaitingkids.ca, has been involved in placing over 200 children since the program began in 1997. ACC answers over 14,000 information requests a year by e-mail and telephone.
