Music galore at the 150th celebrations

Southampton, Ont., June 25, 2008 -- It's not just an anniversary, it's a four-day music festival, too, at Southampton's 150th Anniversary Weekend, Aug. 14-17, 2008. There's folk and roots on Thursday night, rock on Friday night, jazz on Saturday afternoon, and country and bluegrass on Sunday afternoon.

The Big Band Dance at Town Hall on Saturday night features the always popular Stardust Big Band. For the same $15 ticket you can step next door to the Arena and take in Sapsuckers and the Greg Deckert Band, headlining the 150th Anniversary Dance.

Musicians are all drawn from the rich music culture of the Southampton area. It's an unprecedented chance to hear local talent like Flashback, Bearcats, Waterside, Jim MacDonald, and the Southampton Jazz Band.

The place to be for music fans is the Heritage Village around Southampton's flag, at the foot of High Street. Two stages will be set up: the Royal LePage DC Johnston Realty Stage inside the Heritage Tent, and the Bruce Telecom Stage on Millard Blvd. Other music locations are Town Hall, Arena and Fairy Lake.
